Nacho Night at Half Acre

May 14, 2014

The BF and I headed to one of our favorite Chicago breweries, Half Acre, to enjoy an evening full of brews, nachos, and new friends. Half Acre collaborated with Sunday Dinner Club, an underground dinner club that usually hosts multi-course dinner parties in a home setting. Typically, these dinners are held several times per month, are BYOB, and open to those on a referral-only mailing list. However, this event was quite different! For $30 per person we enjoyed three pints of Half Acre beers on tap, short rib nachos, and cornmeal lime cookies. Seating was random which allowed us to meet another couple, and the event was super informal. We heard from Maurizio, partner at Half Acre, as well as the chefs behind Sunday Dinner Club, Josh and Christine. Not only are Josh and Christine the rockstars behind Sunday Dinner Club, they also happen to be behind the wildly popular Honey Butter Fried Chicken.

The nachos were incredible! It was also incredible they were prepared without the use of a kitchen, in the Half Acre brewery. The nachos started out with a layer of house-fried Milagro tortilla chips and a layer of Slagel Family Farm braised short rib smothered with housemade pepper jack cheese. Then they were topped with fire-roasted guajillo chile salsa with garlic and orange zest, and red cabbage and cilantro slaw, tossed in chili oil and vinegar, for an added crunch. These were no ballpark nachos! The cheese and short rib were the best part!

For a sweet ending to our meal, we had cornmeal cookies topped with a lime glaze which also were delicious!

We had a great time at our first Sunday Dinner Club event and will definitely be returning for another collaboration event, or an underground dinner. If you're interested in joining the referral-only list for Sunday Dinner Club let me know and I will refer you!
