Sunday Small Plates at Acre

Brunch menu
On a Sunday stroll through the shops of Andersonville, my mom and I decided to drop by a newish local ingredient restaurant, Acre. This farm-to-table restaurant features a beautiful sidewalk cafe, as well as a walk-up wine bar and cushy leather booths fashioned out of reclaimed wood. Since it was a beautiful day, we grabbed a spot at the sidewalk cafe and perused the wine menu. Acre features and impressive draft and beer list and all of their staff is Cicerone certified. We were more in the mood for wine, so we opted for some sauvignon blanc. Wines at acre are served by the 1/3 bottle and bottle, allowing you to share several varieties.

Even though we had just had brunch a few hours earlier, we wanted to try some small plates to accompany our wine. The first was a watermelon salad featuring sliced cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, red onion, olives and feta. The salad was extremely refreshing and the fresh watermelon helped cool off the spice from the peppers. This salad is easy enough to make at home but Acre really had the right proportion of quality, fresh ingredients!

Lastly, we split the vegetable flatbread. This mini pizza had heaps of fresh vegetables including sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers and swiss chard and was topped with a generous portion of chihuahua cheese. The crust was perfectly crispy and the cheese was mild enough to complement the strong flavors of the corn and swiss chard.

We had a great experience at Acre and for that I give them 4 stars. The European atmosphere, friendly staff (thanks Evan!) and local ingredients made the visit worthwhile. I will definitely be back to have dinner and a beer at this Andersonville hot spot!

  1. They weren't kidding about the wee little plates. I'd run up quite the bill if I ever dined there.
