Two Brothers Brewery

September 19, 2010

Besides my passion for baked goods (i.e. cupcakes), another love of mine is beer. Good, local beer. Wanting to check out a local brewery, led the bf and I to road trip out to the western suburbs to Warrenville, IL's Two Brothers Brewery.
Resistance IPA & Ebel's Weiss

Several hours of traffic later, we arrived at a small, sign-less building. This building formerly housed a gymnastics company and made you wonder how it was possible to produce so much beer in such a small space!

We entered to find the tap house, a small bar and restaurant where we had a few beers before touring the Two Brothers Brewery. I had their traditional German Hefeweizen, Ebel's Weiss. This beer was refreshing and had flavors of banana and clove. The BF had a pint of the Cane & Ebel and the Resistance IPA, amber and pale ales, respectively.

We grabbed our pints and brought them with us on the tour (apparently, a must!). We were led through the tap room to a open warehouse that housed all of Two Brothers' beer-making and bottling equipment. Our tour guide was very welcoming and laid-back and the free tour lasted all of thirty minutes. We were led around the room to their giant oak barrels for specialty beers, and different fermentation and sanitizing vats.

We also got to see the lone bottling machine that Two Brothers uses. Again, it was incredible to see the equipment that is used to produce so much beer!

Beer Bottling Equipment
Our tour led us to piles of boxes and empty bottles lined up against a wall with the former gymnastics logo on it (our tour guide claimed the brewery still hadn't gotten around to painting over it!)

Packaged Cases & Kegs
The brewery tour was short and sweet and afterward we were given tickets to sample three beers of our choosing.  This made the trek out to the 'burbs worth it, and we also stayed for lunch in their tap room.
I sampled the French Country Ale, Resistance IPA and Long Haul Session Ale.

Tap Room Beer Tastings
If you love beer, and you love free samples of beer, (who doesn't?) head out to Warrenville for a quick tour and stay for a drink and lunch. Two Brothers offers tours on Saturday at 1pm and 2:30pm and now on Sundays at 1pm. Arrive early for the free tour to try out one of their great brews on draft. Two Brothers also sells six packs of all beers and even fills growlers for you to take with you.

If you're lucky enough to be visiting at the right time, grab a bottle of Hop Juice, Two Brothers' double IPA.  The bf and I bought two of these large bottles and got them to go. If you're going to drink this heavy ale, make sure you don't have any plans. It's strong, it's bitter, and you will get drunk. Cheers!
