What's Cooking in the Kitsch'n?

July 18, 2010

A sweltering Sunday afternoon and a desire to try chicken & waffles led my roommate and I to retro-themed Kitsch'n on Roscoe. This cozy retaurant is decked from floor to ceiling in old school knick-knacks and black and white TVs. Sitting in our corner back-room table made us feel like we were in someone's 1970s style basement.

In order to maximize our tastebuds, we split two different entrees. The first of course was the "cult classic," chicken and waffles. Now, I've never had chicken and waffles but their version didn't quite seem like the real deal. The waffles were delicious, however, as was the ancho honey sauce I found myself drizzling all over the chicken. My big appetite was expecting a heaping portion of fried chicken breasts, however, the entree came with two fast-food style breaded chicken cutlets. The entree was tasty, but not at all what I expected!

The second entree that we split was the carolina pulled pork sandwich. I'm a big bbq fanatic and this sandwich was high on my list. The meat was tender and well seasoned and paired well with their homemade honey mustard bbq sauce (which I also smothered on every bite). The accompanying coleslaw had a weird tang to it which made me think it was spoiled, hence, no coleslaw for me. Good thing the sandwich also came with a pile of seasoned curly fries...you can't go wrong there!

If you're in need of comfort food, and an entertaining dining experience, you won't find one more unique than Kitsch'n on Roscoe. You could tell that the relaxed staff was genuinley excited and happy to serve you and it made all the difference. I will definitely go back to try some other brunch options, but not before I hit up the gym! 4 stars!
